Indigenous Sport & Wellness Ontario (ISWO) is excited to announce that the Masters Indigenous Games (MIG) will return to Ottawa from August 14-17, 2025. Following the success of the 2023 Games, which took place from August 24-27, the 2025 event promises to be even more impactful and inspiring.

About the Games

The Masters Indigenous Games celebrate the rich sports traditions and vibrant cultures of Indigenous Peoples from across North America. Athletes ages 20 and older will compete in a variety of sports, including traditional games such as lacrosse, archery, and canoeing, as well as contemporary sports like basketball, volleyball, and athletics.

"We're extremely excited to return to Ottawa this summer", said Marc Laliberte, honorary chair of the Games and former president of Indigenous Sport & Wellness Ontario. "Ottawa provides the perfect backdrop for this 4-day celebration of Indigenous sporting excellence and cultural exchange."

Other Activities

Beyond the sports competitions, the Games are a powerful platform for cultural exchange and reconciliation. Participants and spectators will have the opportunity to engage in cultural workshops, traditional dance performances, and storytelling sessions taking place in the Cultural Village located at Lansdowne Park. These activities aim to foster a deeper understanding and appreciation of Indigenous cultures and histories.

MIG 2025 will also emphasize the importance of reconciliation. By bringing together Indigenous and non-Indigenous communities in the Cultural Village that's open to the public, the Games provide a space for dialogue, learning, and mutual respect. This aligns with the broader national efforts towards reconciliation and building stronger, more inclusive communities.
